These are the first five blankets I've completed for my stash-busting! They are small 'lapghan' style blankets, ideal for just keeping cosy while seated and inspired by the amazing SIBOL project. I was originally hoping to donate these directly to SIBOL (Sunshine International Blankets Of Love donated blankets to elderly care homes all across the UK) but the founder has retired it and as I only had five to donate, I didn't feel that donating those to a care facility would work! Maybe in future...

So most of these blankets were made with squares that I'd already made for other projects that never worked out-I had a couple of bags full so it was the best place to start! Truth is, I keep trying to design and make a blanket for my mum, I get most of the way through making the squares and arranging it all before putting it together before I realise that it doesn't work at all! I still haven't cracked it but at least I've managed to make some blankets that I think others will like.
I'd made a few phone calls to the local council about possible donation places and they directed me to Age Morgannwg https://www.ageconnectsmorgannwg.org.uk/ which is a local charity that supports the elders of our community in their independence and safety. I gave them a call and spoke to a lovely lady who was delighted to accept the blankets I'd made so a few days later I was able to pop in with them!
They have assured me that they'll be given to loving homes :-DWitchy Lizardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00450656913660741640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482481228425177085.post-78050392253663326632019-03-29T08:34:00.000+00:002019-03-29T08:34:07.001+00:00Before we begin...Blanket for JaxI have been crocheting very hard over the past couple of weeks and so far, I have 5 blankets ready to donate, about half of the squares done for another and am looking at a rainbow ripple I tucked away a few years back. So I'll be blogging a bit next week about my progress and showing some photos!

But first, let me take you back about three years...

One of the friends I made through the Cwtch of Comfort project is a lovely lady named Gaelle. She is an avid crocheter and teaches a range of classes from beginner to expert and so, as you can imagine, she has built up quite the collection of little sample pieces! Testing out stitches and trying out yarns, she had a decent supply of odds and ends tat weren't ever going to be used.

On a slight tangent, Gaelle had a friend named Jax who used to be a member of the local quilting group-she could knit as well and had recently learnt a bit of crochet from Gaelle. Jax passed away quite suddenly about 3 years ago and a few people from the quilting group that she was very close to, Gaelle being one of them, were asked to go through her craft supplies and redistribute them. Gaelle came across a large quantity of knitted and crocheted pieces-some square, most not and thought it would be lovely to combine them into a blanket along with her pieces to have as a keepsake.

So as you can guess by all my rambling, this is where I come in!
I should have taken photos of all the pieces I had-Gaelle also had made two large motifs in blue, grey and white and passed those along as well so I tried to use them as the base for the blanket. Given how mismatched the peieces were, I admit it took me a LONG time to find a way of putting it together. I made a good start with it initially but I couldn't figure out how to make it go and I got very frustrated with it. It didn't help that none of the colours seemed to work well and my attempts to make larger squares out of the pieces I had kinda looked amateurish.
So it got left in a box for a couple of years.
With the big stash busting blanket making project idea, I started hunting through bags and cupboards for my vast stash that somehow gets pushed into every cupboard and room of my house. I looked through the box again and while I'd never choose these colours myself, they started to have a fresh appeal. I worked like a demon on it for a few days, trying again to build up bigger squares from the pieces-crocheting edges around the knitted bits, adding a round or two here and there and then making a few little squares to accentuate the colours used (you can see those top and bottom)
It surprised me how quickly it came together! Barring the first couple of years...

I think it just needed a time out.

So here you go! The Blanket for Jax

I gave it to Gaelle last week and she's delighted with it! I think Jax would have liked it too <3Witchy Lizardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00450656913660741640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482481228425177085.post-81961504495171404132019-03-11T19:07:00.000+00:002019-03-11T19:07:11.203+00:00HELLO!And it's been an age! I have completely disappeared up my own backside these past few years blog-wise. Life is good, mostly, same old same old and there's a proper update in the near future I promise. I did transfer within Greggs to a shop closer to me and it has its ups and downs-I'm often so tired that I have very little energy left for crochet and while my crochet group does still meet up, I can't make it down very often and we haven't really had a joint project for a while. The last few projects we've done have been for Woolly Hugs, who are a fantastic group and well worth supporting as they do a lot of different blanket charity ventures to get involved with. My issue is that they only accept blankets made with Stylecraft Special DK and they have a very specific palette for each project. Whilst I understand the reasons for this, it does mean that when I'm trying to de-stash, I want to be able to use up what I've got and in whatever colours I have-Woolly Hugs is something I tend to have to buy yarn for...

So here's the point of this post! I am attempting to have a declutter and actually get rid of a lot of the yarn I have before I allow myself to buy any more. I have a lot of bags in the spare room of yarn that was meant to be for certain projects that never worked out (case in point to follow), I have two large bags of pastel/pinks that a friend passed along to me as she was moving house and needed rid of it and I've had a lot of squares kicking about that were meant for blanket projects that again never really worked out.

So over this past week, I have gone through the bags and pulled out all the squares (and there were quite a few!) and so far I have made THREE decent sized lapghans with them! I also dug out a project a friend asked me to undertake a year or two ago and turn a whole bunch of sample/scrap/practise crochet and knitted pieces of all different sizes (these were made by a dear friend of hers that passed away from cancer) into a blanket-this has been my nemesis for a while but these past 7 days has seen me tackling that too and today it was finished! Just need to weave some ends in and then it's ready for her....

Sorry! I digress...back to the point!

My plan is to work through this yarn and make 30 blankets for 6 different charities. So far, I haven't decided which charities specifically but I want to donate 5 to a nursing home; 5 to a neonatal ward; 5 to hospice care; 5 to foster kids/ kids in shelter; 5 to cancer patients and 5 to bereaved parents (for this, I'm thinking of Cwtch of Comfort of course) So here's the thing. I'm positive I've got enough yarn here to do this so please, please, I'm NOT asking for squares or yarn or even for donations from other people as this is a personal goal. But I would like your recommendations/suggestions of places in the UK (preferably South Wales) to donate to. And if you like this idea, please feel free to bust that stash and set a goal! I'll cheer you on all the way :-D

I have three blankets so far to start off with-I'll take photos to share with you as soon as I can!Witchy Lizardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00450656913660741640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482481228425177085.post-44665991863123301822016-01-01T21:40:00.003+00:002016-01-01T21:41:42.305+00:00Happy New Year!Wishing you all a beautiful New Year! I've been so quiet here, I hope you can forgive me! Between work, Ponty Happy Hookers, home, Myf, Yule, Christmas, it's all just been so crazy...I won't inundate you with all my updates, I'll save that for late. For now, hope you are having a fantastic festive season and are starting 2016 with a bang :-D
She's absolutely fine-she had a sebaceous cyst on the back of her neck and she needed two teeth extracting so they did it all at once. Only trouble is trying to stop her scratching the stitches-a cone collar would rub on them and I haven't been able to get a soft one-so currently, when I'm out or at nighttime when she's downstairs, she has a light dressing and a cat jumper which seems to be protecting them. She hates it though so I'm covered in a pretty array of scratches....

So, nearly three weeks ago, we had our big event! I was at work in the morning until 2pm so when I got back, I was running around getting materials to make a big card with all the names in-I hardly had time to get changed before my friend Bonnie (and fellow happy hooker) arrived to load up with all the blankets in the van and drive us down to The Blueberry Inn (who have been most hospitable with all our needs!)

(For those who are just joining this blog, here's what it was all about...Please help Cwtch of Comfort)

Myf was in charge of photos so she spent quite a bit of time arranging the blankets on the table and taking photos :-)

We met Rhian who is the wonderful lady behind the 2Wish Upon A Star Foundation and spent quite a bit of time showing her all the blankets that had been made and introducing her to the lovely ladies in our group. She was stunned at the outpouring of support from so many crafting people and had so many lovely things to say about our blankets :-)
I know I've put their names in but I really want to give a big shout out to the ladies of my crochet group. We have such a great time and there's so many talented people here-thank you all xxxx
It's been a bittersweet journey with these blankets-I've become so aware of how lucky I am and my heart truly goes out to all the families in need of the comfort these blankets bring. There's always a need for more-please, please, if you can, make a square or a blanket for them-your kindness means a great deal.
We had a massive donation of big squares from a lovely lady who is the aunt of a friend.

She'd made them with the view that they would be lovely baby blankets but unfortunately they were too small at 19inches squares each. So I put most of them together to make a massive teen/young adult size...

I had one square left over so I made that one into another baby blanket

We also had two more baby blankets donated, this time from a local group called 'The Knitting Nanas'

Absolutely lovely, thank you so much!

Our good friend Bonnie also finished off the toddler sized blanket she was putting together from donated squares-isn't it beautiful? She uses a different method putting squares together that I'm keen to try out...

The last blanket from donated squares is another toddler size-there were a number of odd or left over squares, different sizes and they ended up to one side-

Very pretty I think!

Just before our big handover night, my friend Gaelle brought over a stunning toddler blanket that she has made-it is so soft and lovely!

We've had our massive handover evening which I will post separately but there were a few blankets brought on the day that I'd like to show you as well...

These two were brought along by Susan and Julie who have come along to our meetups and helped put together the group blankets-they are really lovely!

Another blanket was brought along by Harrie-it was made by her friend in memory of her baby daughter-it's a beautiful knitted blanket xxx

Last, and most definitely not least, is a beautiful blanket made by my lovely friend Harrie! It was from a conversation with her a few years ago when I was teaching her how to make a granny square that she told me about Cwtch of Comfort and when she reminded me earlier in the year, it resulted in a fantastic effort by so many people :-D She has made a pink and white blanket in memory of her friend's son who died tragically-it is called 'May the Force be with You' as he was a big Star Wars fan xxx

I have been working a lot over these holidays and so between that, trying to get some quality time with Myf and finishing up the big blanket project, I don't feel I've had time to sleep! Needless to say, I need to do some serious catching up so let's start off with a Cwtch of Comfort update.

So firstly-my wonderful sister Thea made this lovely baby blanket for us-isn't it beautiful? It is te same design she used for a baby blanket for her youngest so it's very close to the heart xxx

She also sent in squares for the 'Sister's Blanket'

Speaking of the Sisters Blanket, I've finished that as well :-D I made some squares in pale green and one in yellow to complete the set and put it together-I love how soft it is and how it has been created from the skills of three sisters, we're so different but here we're complementary :-D xxx I've been so delighted to finally collaborate with them, particularly for something so important

I also finished putting together the blankets that the ladies from my crochet group worked on at our get togethers-there's the big beautiful yellow child size blanket...

And this toddler size blanket...

It's been lovely putting together blankets with my group-some of the ladies have never done it before so they really enjoyed learning a new skill!

Finally, we have the last two child sized blankets made with donated squares-
I had to make a few extra squares for this one once I had the idea in mind!

I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to put the lilac and white one together but I think the effort was worth while!

One of the ladies from my group, Bonnie, had donated loads of lilac squares for this blanket-there was one left over that seemed a little sad on its own so it became its own baby blanket :-D

I just went around it improvising which was a lot of fun...

There are quite a few more blankets to show you but I'll do that in a separate post :-) Thanks for reading! xxxx

This one is 40 squares (toddler size) and I tried a few different things with the border. First, after the standard granny round to tie it all in, I tried out a 'crossed double crochet stitch' that I've read about but never tried. So simple! You do a normal double crochet stitch (I use american terms) and then do one in the stitch behind it so it crosses over. It's quite a subtle effect but I think in strong colours, it would really stand out. I finished off with a spike stitch variant for the last round-I think it looks quite lovely! It adds quite a bit to the dimensions as well-this blanket measures 34" by 52".

A friend of Bonnie's also donated these two lovely blankets for Cwtch of Comfort

This one is narrow but long, I think it'll be a good size for a premature baby.

This is a fabulous size! I love the design.

Thank you Ruth, they are very much appreciated xxx
I'm so impressed by the skills and talents of people and by the generosity.

Joyce, from the SIBOL ravelry group, donated a blanket early on-and this week, I received another stunning blanket from her. She's used a heart pattern throughout that gives such a lovely textured effect.

This is absolutely beautiful Joyce, thank you so much xxx

My friend Lisa has two little ones and she has very kindly donated a blanket that was made for her when her little ones were babies. It's a gorgeous circular blanket that will definitely bring comfort to a grieving family.

There are some pink squares as well that I can't use for this project but I'll keep them aside with some of the other squares I've received that I can't use here for another blanket.

We met up on Wednesday night for another crochet along-this time to put together the squares for one of the child size blankets. I brought down 80 squares in yellow and white with lots of spare yarn and we had a great time! I showed some ladies how to use single crochet to attach the squares together into long strips of ten-I'll put these together a little later.
We had a lovely time again and met a couple more new faces! We also talked about staying as a crochet group after the Cwtch Of Comfort project is finished, with the plan of regularly making donation pieces for charities close to our hearts.

My sister Jess is one of the most talented crafters I know. She (along with my other sister Thea) was the main force behind teaching me to crochet, encouraging and inspiring me. She's been crocheting for many years, since we were kids, and she makes such beautiful things.

When I started this project to help support 'Cwtch of Comfort', I called my sisters and asked for their help. They've both offered to make blankets as well as some squares to go into a special 'Sisters Blanket' made by the three of us. Jess sent hers in a couple of weeks ago and it's so stunning!

It's so soft and tactile-she's worked it with bobbles in the border to match up to the squares. Isn't it lovely?
These are the squares for our special blanket. Just waiting on Thea now...Witchy Lizardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00450656913660741640noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482481228425177085.post-86260469076924905152015-06-07T18:42:00.000+01:002015-06-07T18:42:00.483+01:00TWO blankets finished already!I am so proud to be able to share these with you today.

I started the first blanket last weekend as soon as the deadline arrived-I can't tell you how excited and keen I've been to get cracking with these beautiful squares!

This is our FIRST blanket made with the donations from all you lovely people-it is a child size (80 squares) so it measures approx 46" by 62" and I think it has a beautiful balance of squares-it has a very peaceful feel.

Isn't it lovely?

The second one I started yesterday morning at 5am and finished at 10am this morning before I went to work (Myf and I spent most of the day in Cardiff as well!) It's a toddler size (40 squares) and measures approx 42" by 46"-I think it's gorgeous!

Neither blanket has an official name-feel free to suggest one! We're meeting up at the Blueberry in Pontypridd again on Wednesday to put together another child size blanket and I'm planning to take a list of the suggested names to put into a hat...In the meantime, the lovely Bonnie is hard at work putting together two blankets from the squares I've passed along to her and I'm on to the next blanket...
Watch this space!

A massive thank you to EVERYONE who has donated squares, wool or/and blankets. Working together, we will be donating 20 blankets to Cwtch of Comfort for the 2 Wish Upon A Star Foundation, which works to support families going through the horrific loss of a child. The difference YOU'RE making is incredible and inspiring xxxxxxxxxx

One of these friends, Clare, has sent in 7 lovely squares in pale yellow and pale purple along with some extra yarn for joining. She enclosed a card telling me a little about herself-she's a confident knitter but new to crochet and wanted to show her support by making some squares. I think these are really lovely and I'd never have guessed that she hadn't been crocheting for years!

So a very big THANK YOU to Fiona, Shona and Jane for these beautiful squares. You have all done a fabulous job on them xx
She is a wonderfully crafty lady who makes beautiful things and has a Facebook Page here where you can peruse her goodies and buy gifts :-)

From the get-go, Bonnie contacted her fellow crafting friends and suggested the first crochet along. She's a member of the Pontypridd Women's Collective who have been incredibly supportive, sharing the need for blankets and squares and being instrumental in our get togethers. She's made a lovely blanket as well as loads of squares!

Bonnie has a sister...I know Kate by reputation mostly-she taught a very good friend of mine how to crochet and I think she was also Bonnie's inspiration for getting into this craft :-D Kate has made these lovely squares that Bonnie sent over a few days ago!

There are TWENTY squares here in lovely shades of pale green-I'm going to add five more white squares and make a baby blanket with them! Thank you Kate! xx

Bonnie has also very kindly offered to put together a couple of the blankets so I'm sending her enough to make one child size and one toddler size. I can't wait to see what she makes of them!

Thank you Bonnie, for all your help and support xxxWitchy Lizardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00450656913660741640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482481228425177085.post-34841099603499402882015-06-02T05:06:00.000+01:002015-06-02T05:41:58.390+01:00Apologies folks-I meant to post Sunday or yesterday but I've been
having some problems with migraines of late and haven't been able to
string a proper sentence together :-(

Before I show you the results of the square drive, I have the last few donations to share with you.

First of all, all the way from America, I have these two beautiful squares from the wonderful Debi Y.

I have been a fan of her blog for a few years now-I LOVE her patterns and she's a really lovely lady. Thank you so much Debi, these are perfect!

The other squares are from the very talented Gaelle who I met through the crochet alongs we've been having. She is a very experienced crafter who teaches crochet locally-I must pick her brains soon as I'd love to know how she does some of these stitches!

Thank you Gaelle-you have made a lot of beautiful squares for this project and it's been a delight to get to know you!

So, we've reached a deadline for the squares! And I have to tell you, the results have STAGGERED me.

From the end of April, when this all started, to the end of May, there have been over 430 squares made and donated! This means there are enough squares to make THREE child size blankets, FOUR toddler blankets and maybe another baby blanket or two once the final donations are in.

This has been an INCREDIBLE result-I was hoping we'd get enough squares for two, maybe three blankets-to have enough to make SEVEN (and in larger sizes) is amazing.
There have also been a number of donations of baby blankets-so far, there are ELEVEN piled up. There are a couple of other baby blankets on the way in the post so I want to wait for those before sharing a beautiful photo of the pile with you. There are also still some squares on the way!

I keep saying how blown away I am by how kind people are but truthfully, words can't describe how completely overwhelming it's been. The crafting community is full of kind and generous people and I'm proud and humbled to see them swing into action for such a good cause.

This is what it's all been about-

Cwtch of Comfort is the blanket project associated with the 2 Wish Upon A Star foundation. This is a charity that helps those families going through their worst nightmare-the death of a child. I'm a mum and I cannot imagine how devastated I would be if I lost my daughter-I can't even bear to think about it. These families need support and unfortunately, given a lot of the funding cuts that have taken place within the NHS, there's been a lack of facilites and help available in hospitals across Wales.
2 Wish seeks to ensure that there is immediate grief counselling available, that there are private rooms for families going through this loss and that there are 'bereavement boxes'. This boxes contain a few things-something to dress the child in, a disposable camera and a blanket to wrap the child in. This is where 'Cwtch of Comfort' comes is-they ask people to make blankets in a range of sizes to donate. These give such comfort-they are a reminder that people care.

I've made a couple of blankets for the SIBOL project in the past-the amazing lady who started it used to ask people to donate squares as many people find making a whole blanket to be a bit much. I thought this would be a good idea for the Cwtch project and I asked my crafting friends to help.

Things kinda took off after that-I got in touch with MrsTwins of SIBOL and she shared our need with
her SIBOL group-these amazing ladies have donated so many squares to
us! A local group of women, the Pontypridd Women's Collective,
organised crochet/knit alongs, spread the word as well as making loads and loads of squares/blankets. A large number of
people have not just made squares themselves but they've had their own
groups join in and help. We've had crochet/knit alongs, there's been a radio interview, there's been squares and blankets flying through the post! It's been fantastic to see the support for these poor families. You are all such fantastic people xxx

So if you do have any squares, please get them in the post ASAP! We're going to be putting squares together throughout June (and possibly July) so there's still time to send them in. Just don't make anymore for me at the moment ;-)

Lastly, I want to say-

THANKYOU!!
We had another very successful crochet/knit session at the Blueberry Inn on Tuesday-I really enjoy meeting these wonderful people who happily donate their time and skills for good causes. A big thank you and welcome to Suzanne, Jen and Amanda who came along last time-and a big shout out to the wonderful regular ladies, Bonnie, Eirian, Harrie, Gaelle, Lisa, Claire, Elise and Jackie-I know some of you couldn't make it this time, we missed you! Hopefully see you soon xx
(If I've missed any names on the list, I'm dreadfully sorry-I am terrible with names so please let me know so I can mend things)

We have quite the haul of squares!

Thank you so much Jen and thank you for the lovely bag of yarn as well-very much appreciated!

Yesterday, I popped into town to see my good friend Kathy-a few years back, I'd made her this she is one of the kindest people I know-she is genuinely the sweetest lady around :-) She has made four squares for the project as well!

AND when I got home, I found a parcel from Jayne over at the SIBOL ravelry group. She's already donated a lot of squares to the project but has made even more with her friend Jill!

Thank you Linda!

Lastly, I was remiss in thanking a lady called Edwina for her donation of yarn a couple of weeks ago-I've only just found out her name! She brought it along to one of the crochet-alongs but as she couldn't stay, I didn't get the chance to chat to her. She donated a massive bag of yarn that I turned into some squares...

(There were more squares I made but these were the highlights ;-)- quite a few of the patterns are from the AMAZING Debi-Y's blog )

Thank you Edwina! She donated some more yarn to me today-I am really grateful to you, it will be very useful-especially now that it's almost time to make blankets with all the lovely squares!

I would like to tell you all how touched I am by the support you've shown. This is a fantastic cause and so worthwhile-each donation is going to make such a difference to families going through the worst time of their life. So far, we have over 300 squares and eleven blankets-this is amazing and more than I could have hoped for! Each of you prove beyond doubt that people care, that there is good in the world and you are all so inspiring. Thank you. xxx

There's only a few days left before the deadline (end of May)-don't worry if you haven't sent in your squares/blankets yet, I'll still accept them throughout June, just please don't start making more after May-I'll need to get on top of the pile first!

I had a parcel yesterday morning from Chris over at the SIBOL ravelry group which has a variety of knitted and crocheted squares in lots of shades-she and her local friends, Sue and Jayne, have been hard at work for us.

17 of them! Thank you so much! They are wonderful.

On my way back from walking my daughter to the bus stop, I met my friend Lisa who gave me another 4 squares that she has been working on-her crochet confidence is growing and growing, well done darling!

When I got home from work, there was another parcel waiting for me-this one is from Joanne who I think is also part of the SIBOL ravelry group and she had made 30 squares!

Fantastic work! Thank you Joanne, these are perfect for us, you really have been crocheting a storm!

And finally, just as I was taking photos of these wonderful squares, I heard something come through the door-someone posted these lovelies!

I have no idea who sent these-they were handposted so it must be someone I know/a friend of a friend! I will find out and let you know...whoever you are, thank you!

There's not long left until the deadline-please get in touch asap if you have squares for us!

Here's what it's all about-

'Cwtch of Comfort' requests blankets to donate towards bereavement
boxes for the '2Wish Upon A Star' charity that supports families
suffering the loss of a child. I have been inspired by the amazing SIBOL
project to ask people to send me squares as many find the thought of
making a whole blanket a tad overwhelming! So with your help, I'm
hoping to have a whole big pile of squares to work with by the end of
this month. Could you help?

Here's what I need you to do:

Make a square!
It can be either knitted or crocheted
It must be approx 6" (knitted can be a little bit smaller)
Pale pastel gender neutral colours or White only please
Acrylic yarn

Email me at amberspider@googlemail.com and I'll send you my address :-)

The
deadline for squares is the end of May 2015-I'd really like to have
lots and lots of squares to put together and any help would be so
appreciated. Even a share on your blog would be a massive help!Witchy Lizardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00450656913660741640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4482481228425177085.post-39749831903969172742015-05-20T17:19:00.001+01:002015-06-12T08:19:07.842+01:00More squares from Claire!Claire has been a fantastic support for this project and has made a blanket, lots of squares, and as well as coming to the crochet alongs, she has been sharing the cause through Facebook and to friends. It is wet and windy here in Wales today but I'm hoping the weather is bright wherever you are.

Over the weekend, some gorgeous squares arrived from London-these have been made by Ilona and she has done such a fantastic job with them

Thank you Ilona! They are lovely and will be perfect for the blankets.
The pile of squares is steadily increasing-soon, we will be organising them into blankets, I can't wait!

Speaking of blankets, I've finally finished my second donation. I wanted to do another heart theme so I decided to use a mixture of solid squares and traditional granny squares-this meant having to make squares only three rounds big so of course this means a LOT of squares! I put it together as I went along to save my sanity (such as it is) but once the heart motif was done, it looked a bit too subtle, ie, hardly noticeable at all! So I decided to go over the top edges in pale lemon with single crochet to create a ridged effect that would show it up better and then accentuated it with lemon squares in the corners. Want to see?

I'm hoping to call it 'Comforting Cwtch' in honour of the charity.

It measures 35" by 45" so it is a toddler size.

Would you like to get involved?
We had an amazing turnout for the crochet along-most of the ladies who came last time came again and we had some new faces as well! We had a great time chatting away, talking about the cause, swapping crafting stories and it's been wonderful for me to make friends of a like mind :-D

Two ladies have made a blanket each already! Bonnie has made this gorgeous piece in a lovely chunky yarn.
I tried to do something a bit different and create a diamond shape around the heart but as I crocheted it, I discovered it looked a bit like a big heart forming around the smaller one-so I continued that theme as it's perfect for this cause.

I have something really important to talk about today and I really need your help. There is a charity local to me that is called '2 Wish upon a Star Foundation' and it's such an vital cause. Many of us are lucky enough not to know the pain of losing a child. Sadly though, for those suffering this tragedy there still seems to be a lack of support. This charity is working to help this.
In its own words:

"The aims of 2 Wish Upon a Star are to raise funds to improve
bereavement services initially in South Wales. Emphasis will be on
bereavement support for parents after losing their child suddenly and
traumatically.

Our Aims
*Ensure every A and E Department in South Wales has a suitable bereavement suites for bereaved relatives
*Bereavement boxes are available for parents at each of these hospitals
*Immediate bereavement support is available for parents and siblings
*To provide a professional counselling service for bereaved parents"

Here's how you can help.

The bereavement boxes contain, among other things, a blanket that the child can be wrapped in, either for burial or to be kept as a keepsake. These are donated and as you can imagine, they really need more. The project for making these blankets is called 'cwtch of comfort' ('cwtch' is Welsh for 'cuddle' ) and it would mean a great deal to have your help. I am commiting to making three blankets for this cause-with the help of my friends, we are planning to make more through a crochet along and we are asking for donations of 6" squares to use.
Here's what I'd like you to do-
Pop over to the website and have a look at the blanket requirements. They must be in either white or very pale pastels (in gender neutral shades only please) and there's a rough size guide. If you can commit to making a blanket, please, please do! You can email me for my address to post it and I will donate it with the others that we are making here.

Or make us a square! I'm following the amazing example of the SIBOL project and I'm asking for 6" WHITE or very pale gender neutral pastel squares in acrylic yarn. We will make them into blankets and if you can attach your name to your square, we'll make sure that your name is listed on the finished item. The deadline for squares at this point is the end of May 2015-please email me at amberspider@googlemail.com and I'll send you my address.

Lastly, a big help would be sharing or linking to this post on your blog. The more people who see it the better!

Please, please help. I know how wonderful the online community is at joining together to help a worthy cause-I'd be honoured to have your involvement.

So, in summary, we need:

6" squares in white or very pale gender neutral pastel shades.
Acrylic yarn preferable.
Knitted or Crocheted

Thank you so muchWitchy Lizardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00450656913660741640noreply@blogger.com3
